I am moving to TV on 11/1. My first purchase - other than the champagne - will be a golf cart. I had just about decided on gas when I found out about the $5800 tax credit on electric "street ready" vehicles. The way the law is written, street-ready golf carts qualify. Now, not one prone to throwing money away, I've changed my mind to electric.

My question is (multiple parts) - which is the best electric cart, why is it the best and where is the best place to buy it?

I have 2 electric club cars and am very happy with them, however if i was buying a new cart i would definitely go with the EZGO RXV, they have a factory outlet store a few miles north of TV on 441 where you can test drive them.....GN

Best is relative, I'm in the market in the future.
My short list includes:

EZGO RXV - AC drive, long range, as stated above, Town & Country is where to buy, though the EZGO showroom is worth a visit.

Club Car - it's the industry/market leader, that alone makes it worth a test drive.

I also want to try the new Polaris Breeze at The Villages golf cart stores, and see what features makes that worthwhile

Last, not least, there's a thread (and website) on Alumacar, seems to have a lot of nice features.. Don's Golf Carts, near Spanish Springs , has them, it's a new brand. Great suspension, AC drive, etc.

I'm looking for comfort, reasonable performance, and of course, price.
I'm renting an EZGO for a week in early November .

I was thinking in a manner very similar to you. I decided to stay with gas for the time being, even though the tax credit is attractive. First, I don't really need or want a street legal cart. Also, I think there is a likely breakthrough in battery technology forthcoming very soon that could make an electric cart much more desirable. To me the limited range and long recharge time are the downside to the electric cart. If the new tecnology is as claimed, both of these limitations will be overcome without increased cost. Until then, a gas cart gives me what I need in TV.

Think you should check before you buy an electric golf cart. It is my understanding that the new tax deal only applies to what would be classified as street legal and that is not exactly the same as a golf cart which is not street legal.

The tax credit does only apply to street legal models. That will limit you to Tomberlin, Columbia Par Car and I believe one other brand.

I bought an electric (Club Car from Golf Cart Connections) cart when I moved here. A year later I bought another electric (Streetrod) cart. Now wife and I can go our separate ways as we wish.

Haven't had a problem with range (who wants to spend that long in a cart at one time?) or speed. Charging isn't an issue either. Just plug 'em in at night and they are ready to go in the AM. Very happy with both choices & dealers.

Tax credit (it's only for street legals) wasn't a consideration for me as I have no intention of taking a cart out in "automobile territory". To me that's a fools errand as the potential dangers are just too big with the drivers we have in TV (both carts and cars). Car v cart? Hmmmm, no brainer there!

If you want (or need) a street legal cart then look at Tomberlin, the E-Merge. The company has made off road machines and scooters for years. There LSV have brakes on all four wheels (one of the only ones), their brake system is hydraulic with front wheel disc, they have the most solid frame of any street legals (push on the side and push any other cart and you will not believe how much stronger the Tomberlin is), the have high and low beams on the headlights. If you care about your safety and safety of your family then compare and you will find it is the one and only for street legal driving. Get the 8 six volt system and you will get a range of 50+ miles. I drove over 30 today with mine and the charge indicator was only down to the 1/2 mark.
