We have a 2015 Yamaha EFI golf cart and sometimes when we put it in reverse, back up, and then throw the cart gear into forward, the cart still goes backwards? This could be very dangerous and cause the cart to back into another cart, car, person, etc... when in a crowded situation. It only happens about one in ten times when transitioning from reverse to forward and I am always very careful to come to a full stop and insure I throw the lever all the way to forward. When this happens the back up beeping sound is not audible. I brought the cart to the Villages Golf Cart service and the technician said it happens sometime but there is nothing he can do about it? There has to be a way to fix this problem. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would bring it back to where I purchased it. This is clearly a safety issue that needs to be resolved.

Are you making sure you come to a complete stop before shifting?
Sounds like a dumb question but the shift mechanism is not designed to mesh during direction change shift. I son't know whether that would make a difference in your case or not. |

Call Todd Casey (352)465-3934. He will come to your house. I have used him for 9 years and have never been unhappy with his work. He works on my Yamaha and club carts. I gave up on The Villages after some shabby work on my cart.

Depends on when you are putting the cart into reverse. It still takes a quarter turn of the secondary clutch to get the cart to go in the opposite direction. We have very few issues with the transmissions and cables on a Yamaha cart.

We’ve had almost the same issue except our Yamaha would not go in reverse. Yes Complete stop... shift into reverse, step on gas & cart would go forward.
We just had it in for our annual & issue was corrected claiming to be some cable at the shift mechanism.... we shall see. |

This may be under warranty. We had a similar problem and took it back to the Villages golf cart service dept (we purchased it at Villages Golf Cart Store) and they fixed it free. I guess this depends on where you purchased it for the warranty.

A second recommendation for Todd Casey. He will get to the root of the problem. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my Yamaha.

We purchased the cart in question from the Villages Golf Cart Store. Not sure if it is still under warranty, we bought it used with 108 hours on it. It was one of the carts the Villages loans out to people doing the "Lifestyle" visit. Every year they replace their loaner fleet and sell the prior years fleet as used carts. As other posts indicate, it sounds like a cable adjustment issue and should be relatively easy to fix. Obviously the Technician I spoke with at the Villages Golf Cart Servive didn't have a clue. I am going to make an appointment with Todd Casey to do a tune-up and fix the cable problem. Thanks all for the helpful replies.

This tells me a technician needs some more training. Something is definitely out of adjustment!

Try being in the business, most of the guys working on carts have no idea what they are doing.
