HIGHLY recommend Netflix movie
Watched this last night.
Operation Mincemeat is a 2021 war drama film directed by John Madden. It is based upon Ben Macintyre's 2010 book on the British Operation Mincemeat during the Second World War. The film stars Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn and Jason Isaacs.
It's 1943. The Allies are determined to break Hitler's grip on occupied Europe, and plan an all-out assault on Sicily; but they face an impossible challenge -- how to protect a massive invasion force from potential massacre. It falls to two remarkable intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Colin Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen) to dream the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war -- centered on the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man. Operation Mincemeat is the extraordinary and true story of an idea that hoped to alter the course of the war -- defying logic, risking countless thousands of lives, and testing the nerves of its creators to breaking point.
We tend to enjoy films based (sometimes loosely...) on fact/history. This is one of them. I was very surprised how much of the film depicted TRUE events, perhaps 80%. Apparently the facts of this mission was finally declassified and a book was written, and the movie. The film's ending shows the REAL people and what happened to them after the mission.
ANOTHER good film, an oldie, was "36 Hours". We were talking with friends and James Garner came up. I mentioned a 1960's film he starred in. Another WWII movie re how the Germans plotted an extraordinary scheme to determine how/where the Allied forces would invade France in June 1944. With Rod Taylor and Eve Marie Saint. I haven't see it since perhaps the 70's, so I googled and got a site where I could cast the entire movie to our TV for free.
