I give a lot of kudos to Joe Gorman, President of the POA for his support and dedication to getting the word out to TV peeps to contact the "powers-that-be" to make this happen.
KUDOs to Joe, you're the voice of the people here in TV.....barb1191
I agree. It is interesting to note Mr. Gorman was not mentioned in the Daily Sun article.
Is this the 60,000 square foot center that has been proposed for Leesburg? The article was unclear about this. The only reason I say that is that $2million of cancer treatemnt equipment does not go very far. I would like to read somewhere that the Leesburg center is off the table. Call me cautious.

Funny, it doesn't say that there will only be 2M in equipment but that everything will be provided except that 2M. I wonder exactly which services will be provided and what you would still need to go to Tampa for.

This means that most costs for the Moffitt center will be covered, with the exception of approximately $2 million of specialty cancer equipment, which will require some charitable contributions during the year of construction.
Well, not exactly, but you cannot buy a "world class" linear accelerator for $2mm. I sure hope I am wrong. And why would you need to raise these funds by charitable contributions? They should be covered by patient/insurance receipts. I just would like to hear that they are not building a 60,000 square foot center in Leesburg, as was proposed originally.

Leesburg is not off the table. There will be two cancer centers, supposedly equal in services. Here's a link to the story in the Leesburg Daily Commercial http://www.dailycommercial.com/local...073010Moffitt-.
There were also online articles in the Orlando Sun.

I think this is a treatment center and not a research center.
Yes?
Probably "yes", Russ. The Daily Commercial article does not mention "research".
It does mention "treatment" and "services" frequently. I would hope it is on a more sophisticated basis than what is currently available here.
I believe the Tampa center is closely tied in with the University of South Florida. That is a big plus where research is concerned.
There are some treatments for rare cancers that would be impractical to duplicate here.
